About This Site

This site was built by a member of this community who lost a home in the Gann Fire. It exists for one reason: to make it easier for neighbors to find and help each other during recovery. It is not run by a nonprofit, government agency, or contractor, and it does not vet, insure, or guarantee anyone who submits a form.

This is a community bulletin board, not a vetting service. Please use your own judgment before letting anyone onto your property or agreeing to any work, just as you would with any person you don't already know.

About the Gann Fire

The Gann Fire ignited the evening of August 3, 2026 near Hogan Dam Road and Gann Road outside Valley Springs, and it burned 10,339 acres before reaching 100% containment.

At the height of the fight, more than 3,000 personnel were assigned to the incident, supported by 12 helicopters, 247 engines, 46 bulldozers, and 67 crews by day three.

Coordinated Response

Response was coordinated through a unified command between CAL FIRE's Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit and the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, with CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 6 overseeing operations. On the ground, sheriff's deputies worked alongside CAL FIRE, providing extra patrols in evacuation zones to protect homes and deter criminal activity. The response also drew in the American Red Cross for shelter operations, and a state of emergency proclamation from Governor Newsom brought Cal OES and other state agencies into supporting the response and recovery effort

The Aftermath

When the smoke cleared, the numbers only told part of the story. Neighbors who lost everything showed up for other neighbors before the fire was even contained. People opened spare rooms to families who'd been evacuated. Local businesses donated meals to shelters. Strangers with trucks and trailers helped haul livestock to safety, and neighbors who did not evacuate helped move livestock that was left behind to safety.

That's the spirit gannfirerecovery.org is built on. The agencies did their part: CAL FIRE, the Sheriff's Office, CHP. But recovery doesn't end when the fire's out, and a lot of what's needed next comes from the community itself.

This site exists to keep that going: neighbors helping neighbors, for as long as it takes to rebuild.
